TECHNIQUES TO CONTROL STUTTER: Step 2: DEEP BREATHING EXERCISE
Sit straight and look straight in front with your chin up. Inhale (i.e. breath in air) slowly through the nose – full deep from the stomach and exhale (breath out) through the nose as slowly as possible.
The inhalation and exhalation should be smooth and relaxed. Do not hold the breathing at any point of time. Always remember that “correct breathing is noiseless”. Keep the muscles of the body loose and relaxed while inhaling and exhaling. Do not tighten your chest muscles.
If the person keeps one hand gently on the stomach, he will notice that when he inhales the stomach should go up and as he exhales it should slowly go down. Continue doing it for a couple of minutes. It will surely regularize the stutterer’s breathing system and he can hold the breathing within himself for a much longer time while speaking enabling him to speak much better.
Do this practice anytime anywhere whenever you are free especially once in the morning.
